Brookville is an unincorporated community and rural village in Butler County, Nebraska, United States. It is located near the geographical center of the county, roughly 9 miles south of the county seat of David City. The present-day population of Brookville is around 300 residents. The community takes it's name from Charles C. Brook, who was one of the first settlers in the area. The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1870s and it has remained a mainly agricultural community since. The community has one school, Brookville Public School, which serves students in grades K-12. The current school building was built in the 1950s and it serves around 250 students. The town also has one church, St. Anne's Catholic Church, which is part of the Diocese of Lincoln. The Brookville area is known for its recreational activities; hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking are all popular pastimes. Brookville Lake is a popular spot for boaters and fishermen and Brookville Wildlife Management Area offers the opportunity for hunting white-tailed deer, turkey, and other game.
