Westville is a small town located in Nance County, Nebraska. It is located in the Platte River Valley, with an elevation of 1,763 feet. The town has a population of around 95 people and is approximately 9.8 square miles in size. Westville was founded in 1879 and named after the nearby lake known as Westville Lake. The town was a shipping and wool-selling center for the surrounding country and was one of the main towns of central Nebraska. The town was incorporated in 1890, and had a school, a few churches, a creamery, a post office, a few stores, a saw mill, and a rock quarry. At its peak, the town had around 350 residences. Today, Westville is mostly a quiet and peaceful town, with a few businesses along Main Street. The town is primarily a farming and ranching community, with some of the farming activities taking place on land that was once a part of Westville Lake. Westville is still largely surrounded by the area's natural beauty, which includes scenic bluffs, open prairies, and abundant wildlife. The town celebrates its long history each Fourth of July with an old fashioned "Westville Fireman's Picnic". Additionally, Westville remains home to the historic Westville Cemetery, which is the final resting place of many of its prominent founding families.
