McCordsville is a small town in Cass County, Nebraska, United States. It is located approximately 5 miles east of the city of Omaha. As of the 2010 census, the population of McCordsville was 883. McCordsville was originally named McCannotville as an homage to the original settler in the area, William McCannot. McCannot used the natural spring located on his homestead grounds in order to power a grist mill. After the village was platted in 1878, it was renamed McCordsville after the family of pioneer settlers, the McCords. The first post office for the town was established in April 1879. In the early days, McCordsville had a school, a blacksmith shop, a grain elevator, and a livery stable. The town had limited growth until 1987 when the Waterford and Avery subdivisions were platted. These two subdivisions were the precursor to the current McCordsville residential developments. McCordsville is home to some of the area’s best golf courses, as well some popular restaurants, such as Big Wheel Burgers and The Midwest Grill. There are also several local businesses, such as the local florist, hardware store, and a veterinary clinic. McCordsville is an ideal residential community for commuters who work in Omaha or neighboring cities. The town has access to major interstates and highways, as well as convenient public transportation via the Ollie the Trolley bus service.
