Muncie was platted in 1895. It was named after Muncie, Indiana, the native home of an early settler. A post office was established at Muncie in 1895, and remained in operation until 1910. Muncie is home to the historic Muncie Schoolhouse and the Muncie Church, both constructed of locally quarried limestone in 1900. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Muncie Schoolhouse is also listed on the Lincoln area's Register of Historic Places.
