Lawrenceville is a city in and the county seat of Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. It is a suburb of Atlanta, located approximately 30 miles northeast of downtown. As of the 2010 census, the population of Lawrenceville was 28,546.
The city of Lawrenceville was created at a crossroads of two Native American trails. In 1821, a settlement grew around the two trails, and was named Lawrenceville after Captain James Lawrence. Lawrenceville was designated as the initial county seat in 1821 and was officially incorporated in 1833.
In the early 20th century, Lawrenceville began to grow rapidly after the expansion of railroads throughout the region. The growing industry of textiles, mining, and agriculture bolstered the economy of the city and allowed it to rely less on its traditional railroad industry.
