Accepted answer

The late Roman Catholic priest, Fr. Michael J. Sears, a few years back wrote a book The Charism of Tongues: A Gift of Prayer and Edification. In the book he has a whole section entitled, Tongues as an Instrument for Exorcism. He writes, in part:

There is a particular power over evil when praying in tongues, simply because it is praise of God. Praise was rejected by the devil and his angels, and now the that Christ has rescued humanity from the power of Satan, the praise of God can act like a 'two edged-sword to deal out vengence' to the enemies of God (Ps. 149). De Grandis points to praise as the very power that tongues has over evil. (p. 93)

He adds:

...In the experience of Fr. DeGrandis, in the area of spiritual warfare tongues is essential for this type of healing. He also warns that people should not get involved in this area of healing ministry unless the person has knowledge and experience and is well equipped to minister in this way...

Fr. DeGrandis comments that when praying for healing with prayer tongues and when the person is in need of a deliverance, the prayer tongues usually change in intonation and become more warlike. 'Tongues change with emotions and in a change in spiritual levels; also doing a deliverance can change tongues. They can become more bellicose. He has also experienced many people who have received healings from addictions, from emotional and spiritual problems, and even from physical disabilities by praying in tongues as a means of deliverance from evil...

It should be noted that Fr. Michael Sears recently died at the young age of 55 while engaging in a life of praying for healing, intercessory prayer and ministry to the poor.
