Frankfort is a village in Howard County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 323 at the 2010 census. Frankfort was originally called St. Mary’s, after the Catholic Church located there. It was founded in 1875 by German settlers who were ranchers looking for a place to raise their cattle. Over the years, the area slowly grew, and in 1888 the village was renamed Frankfort. The village was incorporated on July 17, 1888 and today has over 300 people living in it. The city is located in the Republican River Valley, which is known for its fertile soil and abundant rainfall. There are numerous activities in and around the village ranging from various park attractions to bike trails, golf courses, and more. The village is also well-known for its annual Car Show and Relay For Life. Frankfort is a scenic place to visit, and offers a variety of historical attractions, including the Victorian Sandhills Museum, the Little Red Schoolhouse, and the old Howard County Courthouse.
