Why does the Spanish Military Medical Corps use the Amalfitan Cross?

So, it was adopted to honor the Order of Malta, because that order was considered the combination of military and healthcare activities.

Symbols for the army are quite arbitrary. Since 2021, doctors in the Cuerpo Militar de Sanidad use a caduceous, for example.
