Lowell is a village in Saunders County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 268 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
The first settler to the area that is now Lowell was George Morden, arriving in 1871. The town was named at the suggestion of Austin Barrett, an early resident. John S. Debus platted it in 1886 when the Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley Railroad was built, bringing new settlers to the area.
In 1912 an opera house was built to serve the community’s cultural needs. It also provided a center for community meetings and political rallies. The village celebrated its eleven founder’s day every June.
The village has been expanded three times, the last time occurring in 1993, when it added twenty-two acres to its western boundary.

Today, Lowell is a small, rural village of about bucolic rural atmosphere, surrounded by fields of corn and soybeans. It is located halfway between Omaha and Lincoln, and has become a bedroom community for those who want to work in either city, but still enjoy the quiet of small town life.
Lowell is home to the annual Valley View Fair in late August. This event features car races, a mud run, carnival rides, food vendors, and live entertainment.
