Boca Raton is a city located in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. It was incorporated in 1925 as “Bocaratone,” and later changed to “Boca Raton” in 1926. As of 2020, the population of Boca Raton is estimated to be 93,683.

The early history of Boca Raton began with the Tequesta Indians, who once resided in East Boca Raton. In 1895, the first settler in Boca Raton was Universalist William Alonzo Rogers, who arrived by fishing boat from Estero Bay, Southwest Florida. In 1912, the Federal Government officially established the Boca Raton Army Airfield, which later became the Wilkes Army Airfield.

In the late 1920s, Arthur Vining Davis, a successful businessman, began purchasing spurts of land in east Boca Raton. His primary vision was to create a plan to bring an influx of industry and development in the area. Eventually Davis established what is now known as the Boca Raton Resort & Club, a luxurious hotel and spa.

Throughout the 20th Century, Boca Raton grew steadily as a popular tourist destination and residential area. On October 25, 1995, Boca Raton was struck by a category 5 hurricane by the name of Wilma. In the aftermath, Boca Raton saw billions of dollars of damage and property loss.
