Ozark is a city in and the county seat of Dale County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city is 14,907.

Ozark was incorporated in August 1875. The city’s name was taken from the nearby Little Ozark Creek, so-named because of its resemblance to the river in Arkansas, called the Ozark. The city was a railroad hub during much of its early history, and the origin of the name may have come from the early railroaders. In 1888, it became the county seat of Dale County, after the removal of the seat from Newton to Ozark.

The area around Ozark was largely settled in the 1830s by Scots-Irish settlers who bought land from the federal government. In the early 1900s, the city grew as a result of the area’s timber industry, and railroad and mining operations. In the 1940s, Fort Rucker was established, and the area boomed as a result of increased military presence.
