Millbrook is a city located in Elmore County, Alabama, United States. The population, as of the 2010 census, was 14,640. The city is part of the Montgomery metropolitan statistical area and is located just north of the city of Montgomery.

The area that is now Millbrook was first inhabited by the Creek Indians. The first white settlers began moving into the area around 1776. During the Civil War, area residents fought for the Confederacy and operated quarries around nearby Autauga Creek.

The town began to take shape in 1886 when the Atlanta and Montgomery Railroad finished construction of a rail line north of Montgomery. The railroad established a depot at what is now the intersection of Main Street and Grandview Road in Millbrook. A post office was established at the depot in 1889 and its first postmaster was Henry Dibrell Lawrence.

Millbrook’s growth was steady throughout the 20th century, with the population of the town increasing from 301 in 1900 to 2,689 in 1990. Since then, the population has almost quintupled and the town now covers nine square miles with a population of over 14,000. The city was officially incorporated on July 2, 2000.

Millbrook’s economy is largely based on retail and industry, and the city is home to a number of major retailers, including Walmart, Lowe’s and CVS Pharmacy. The Millbrook Industrial Park is home to a number of companies, including the Arkansas-based Big River Education Technologies Inc., which operates a software development center. Millbrook also features a number of parks, including CreekPark, which is located along the banks of Autauga Creek.

Millbrook is served by the Elmore County School System and has six elementary, two middle and one high school. Other points of interest in the town include the Millbrook Civic Center, which features a basketball gym, racketball courts and an indoor swimming pool, as well as the Millbrook Public Library.
