Fremont is a city in Dodge County, Nebraska, United States. It is located along the Platte River, near the state's eastern border with Iowa. The population was 26,397 at the 2010 census. Fremont was founded in 1856 and incorporated in 1871. It was named after General John C. Fremont, the famous explorer. The city is home to Midland University and has strong transportation connections with the nearby Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area, home to Eppley Airfield. The economy of Fremont is diverse, being a mix of agriculture, manufacturing, and retail. The city's two largest employers are Tyson Foods and Corning Factory. The city is part of the Research Triangle of Nebraska, along with Lincoln and Omaha. The city's downtown area has undergone numerous improvements over recent years, including the construction of the Downtown Square, an outdoor plaza, and the renovation and construction of historical buildings. The city also hosts annual events such as Hot Dog Day, the Fremont Days Festival, the Heritage Days Festival, and the Fremont Marathon. The city has nine public parks, including Lake Vista Park which features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a playground, a skate park, and a nine-hole disc golf course.
