Ainsworth is a city in Brown County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,365 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brown County. Ainsworth was laid out in 1886 at the intersection of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad and the Palmer Branch of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway and was named for Edwin Ainsworth, an official of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad. Ainsworth has a municipal airport, the Ainsworth Regional Airport. It serves the local area for general aviation, as well as oilfield services and general freight. The Ainsworth Community Hall opened in the city on August 28, 1912. It is owned and operated by volunteers, and honors the city's pioneers with a museum filled with antiques and artifacts. The community hall also holds many events throughout the year, such as flea markets, dances, and other community events. The Ainsworth Opera House was known throughout the state as the finest building of its kind for miles around and it serves as a museum and event center today. With its exquisite Jacobean furnishings, original stage curtain, and complete set of scenic backgrounds, the opera house is a real time machine to an era almost forgotten. Ainsworth has one K-12 school, Ainsworth Community Schools. It includes the community elementary and middle school, and high school.
